West Country Treasure!

I discovered the Electric Palace in Bridport last night. A beautiful old 1930’s cinema now used as an art and music venue. Bridport is one of the most creative, inspiring, unsusual towns I’ve ever visited in the England. I realised I’d only just scratched the surface when I found it’s ‘Vintage sector’, an old industrial estate at the back of the town, now filled with genuine vintage clothing, furniture and art, and gorgeous coffee shops! What looks like a quiet and sleepy little west country town, is actually a hive of artisans, designers and some of the most creative people I’ve ever met. But it’s not pretentious in any way. What’s so charming is that nobody really knows about it, apart from the people that live there, and me.

“So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” — J.K. Rowling
“The trouble with quotes on the Internet is that it’s difficult to determine whether or not they are genuine.” —Abraham Lincoln

Would wish you luck, Jonny, but I have a feeling you won’t need it… :)

“Words can never fully say what we want them to say, for they fumble, stammer, and break the best porcelain. The best one can hope for is to find along the way someone to share the path, content to walk in silence, for the heart communes best when it does not try to speak.” —Margaret Weis
